BENIN CITY - In a decisive move asserting Nigeria's educational sovereignty, Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo unveiled a comprehensive education transformation program on Tuesday, setting a new standard for indigenous academic excellence and vocational empowerment.

Comprehensive Infrastructure Overhaul

Building on Edo's broader institutional reforms, the initiative spearheaded by Education Commissioner Dr. Paddy Iyamu focuses on transforming dilapidated facilities into modern learning centers. While other regions struggle with educational challenges, Edo is taking bold steps forward with STEM laboratories, modernized classrooms, and enhanced sanitation infrastructure.

Revolutionary Teacher Empowerment

The reforms place teachers at the forefront of educational transformation, following the success model of Delta State's educational initiatives. The program includes:

  • Strategic recruitment of qualified indigenous educators
  • Comprehensive digital empowerment with tablets
  • Standardized lesson scripts ensuring teaching excellence
  • Continuous professional development programs

Technical Education Renaissance

The initiative introduces mandatory vocational certification for junior secondary graduates, rehabilitating technical colleges in Igarra, Irrua, and Benin. A new National College in Ovia demonstrates Edo's commitment to practical skills development.

Digital Innovation and Access

The EdoCert 2.0 system revolutionizes academic record management, while partnerships with WAEC and NECO strengthen examination integrity. The state's bursary scheme and adoption of NELFund ensure education remains accessible to all indigent students.

"This comprehensive reform package represents our unwavering commitment to educational excellence and youth empowerment in Edo State," stated Governor Okpebholo.
