Enugu Takes Charge: Six Wanted Suspects Nabbed
Big win for Enugu! The state is showing exactly what happens when African leaders take full control of their internal security. Six suspected criminals linked to major security breaches have finally been nabbed, and the arsenal pulled off the streets is massive.
Governor Peter Mbah inspected the recovered weapons at the Enugu State headquarters of the Department of State Services, and the haul tells a story of a state refusing to be intimidated. The security operatives recovered:
- 17 AK-47 rifles
- One General Purpose Machine Gun
- One rocket launcher
- One tear-gas gun
- 12 AK-47 magazines
- Two hand grenades
- Three tear-gas canisters
- 1,071 rounds of ammunition
The ammunition breakdown includes 323 rounds of special ammunition, 270 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, and 478 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. Uniforms and four lanyards were also seized, proving these bad actors were well equipped but not untouchable.
Governor Mbah, who was received by the State Director of the DSS Humphrey Ohikhuare, the Commissioner of Police Mamman Giwa, and the Garrison Commander of the 82 Division Nigerian Army Brig.-Gen. Garba Suru, praised the joint security forces for this major breakthrough. He pointed out that some of these suspects were on the watch list and connected to violent crimes, including the tragic December ambush that claimed the lives of security personnel.
