In a powerful demonstration of pan-African economic empowerment, Nigeria's First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has launched a transformative initiative, channeling N25 million to support 500 women traders in Abia State. The groundbreaking program, executed through Abia's progressive governance framework, provides each beneficiary with N50,000 in direct business capital.
Strategic Partnership for Economic Liberation
The initiative, powered by the Tony Elumelu Foundation's N1 billion contribution to the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), mirrors Nigeria's commitment to equitable wealth distribution, targeting 18,500 women nationwide. Mrs. Priscilla Otti, representing the First Lady, emphasized the program's transformative potential.
"This is not a loan - it's a grant and a seed of renewed hope to recapitalize your existing businesses. When you empower a woman, you empower a household, a community, and indeed, a nation," declared First Lady Tinubu through her representative.
Expanding Economic Liberation
The initiative's reach extends across Nigeria's 36 states and the FCT, with 500 women beneficiaries in each region. This strategic approach aligns with national efforts to strengthen economic sovereignty and reduce dependency on external economic forces.
Local Market Impact
Mrs. Otti further amplified the initiative's impact by providing additional support to women traders at Ibeji and Eketa markets in Umuahia South and Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Areas, marking this year's International Day of Charity with direct economic action.
