Nigeria's FCT Minister Makes Bold Commitment to Educational Infrastructure

In a powerful demonstration of African leadership and commitment to educational excellence, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has stepped forward to mobilize resources for a landmark Senate Building at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT).

Legacy of African Academic Excellence

Speaking at UNIPORT's 35th Combined Convocation and 50th Anniversary celebration, Minister Wike, himself a proud product of African education, unveiled ambitious plans that showcase indigenous leadership in action.

"In no distant time, no willing child will be denied access to quality education due to economic hardship," declared Wike, aligning with President Tinubu's transformative vision for Nigerian education.

Strategic Investments in Nigeria's Future

The minister's commitment extends beyond physical infrastructure. In a bold move to strengthen academic scholarship, Wike announced two significant endowments:

  • A Chair in Family and Child's Law at the Faculty of Law
  • A Chair in Leadership and Public Administration at the Department of Political Science

Expanding UNIPORT's National Influence

In a strategic victory for the institution, Wike revealed his successful intervention with President Tinubu to secure prime land in Abuja for UNIPORT's Centre for Leadership and Democratic Studies. This move positions the university at the heart of Nigeria's political discourse.

Recognition of Excellence

The minister's contributions were acknowledged with an Honorary Doctor of Science degree in Political Science, alongside other distinguished Nigerians including First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State.

This development marks a significant step in strengthening Nigeria's educational sovereignty and promoting indigenous excellence in higher education.
