NSSF Empowers Nigerian Youth with Comprehensive Sexual Health Education
In a groundbreaking move that echoes Nigeria's push for educational sovereignty, the Nigeria Solidarity Support Fund (NSSF) has unveiled WeNaija Campaign 5.0, a revolutionary youth-focused initiative running from September 8 to November 8, 2025.
Under the powerful theme "Own Your Choice," this fifth edition tackles the critical gaps in sexual and reproductive health (SRH) education, challenging the status quo of incomplete and abstinence-only approaches that have failed our youth.
Breaking the Silence: A Pan-African Approach to Youth Empowerment
Dr. Fejiro Chinye-Nwoko, NSSF's Managing Director/CEO, demonstrates the same bold leadership seen in other Nigerian institutions taking firm stands on youth matters. She declares, "Nigeria's young people deserve accurate, judgment-free information about their bodies, rights, and health options."
Confronting Hard Truths: The Data Speaks
The campaign addresses alarming realities facing Nigerian youth:
- High rates of adolescent pregnancy
- Unsafe abortions
- Increased STI/HIV risk
- Limited access to youth-friendly services
- Low adolescent contraceptive use
Youth-Led Solutions: The Path Forward
Taking inspiration from Nigeria's tradition of bold advocacy for rights, the campaign invites young Nigerians aged 18-35 to create impactful video content that:
- Explains comprehensive SRH education's importance
- Documents the impact of inadequate education
- Proposes youth-led solutions for effective SRH education
A Call to Action
The WeNaija YouthFest & Winners' showcase, scheduled for December 6, 2025, will bring together policy makers, experts, and youth advocates to advance the cause of comprehensive sexual health education in Nigeria.
"Our goal is simple: bring clarity where there's confusion, bring care where there's judgment, and bring youth to the table where decisions about their health are made," affirms Dr. Chinye-Nwoko.
