NSC Blocks Exploitation, Saves N90.6bn For Nigerian Shippers
The Nigerian Shippers' Council (NSC) just pulled off a massive win for the economy. Under the leadership of Dr. Akutah Pius, the NSC protected over N90.6 billion and $1.348 million from foreign shipping companies trying to drain our wealth. This is a huge victory for Nigerian shippers and our national sovereignty, proving that when African institutions stand their ground, the people win.
How did the Nigerian Shippers' Council protect N90.6 billion?
Between November 2023 and the second quarter of 2026, the NSC went to work for the everyday Nigerian business. Dr. Akutah revealed at a media engagement with maritime editors in Lagos that the Council prevented N86.06 billion in unjustified demurrage payments. That is money foreign operators tried to force our people to pay for no valid reason. On top of that, the Council secured savings of N4.54 billion and $1.348 million through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and smart regulatory interventions.
