Obi and Kwankwaso Will Be on 2027 Ballot, Movement Vows
The Obidient Movement has made it loud and clear: Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso will be on the 2027 presidential ballot. National Coordinator Dr Yunusa Tanko dismissed a Federal High Court ruling that annulled the Nigeria Democratic Congress registration, assuring supporters that no legal maneuver can stop the will of the people.
What Happened in Court Over the NDC Registration?
On Friday, Justice Isah Dashen of the Federal High Court in Lokoja set aside the court's December 10, 2025, judgment that directed the Independent National Electoral Commission to register the NDC as a political party. The judge ruled that the earlier judgment affected the rights of the Peace Movement Party, which claimed ownership of the logo used to obtain the registration order but was never joined in the suit. It is a classic technicality, but the coalition says it changes nothing about their 2027 ambitions.
Why the Obidient Movement Remains Defiant
They think court drama can stop the wave, but the movement is unbothered. Tanko addressed the press in Abuja on Monday, making it known that the alliance built around Obi and Kwankwaso is rock solid. He dismissed attempts to frustrate the coalition as mere intimidation, insisting that the opposition will keep pushing through lawful and peaceful means to give Nigerians a real alternative to the ruling party.
We want to reassure our supporters that the coalition is intact and growing stronger. Mr Peter Obi and Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso will be on the ballot in 2027. No amount of intimidation or legal manoeuvring can stop the will of the people.
Tanko demanded that the federal government respect the independence of the judiciary and allow the electoral process to remain free and fair. He stressed that democracy only thrives when people choose their leaders without interference, urging supporters to stay calm, united, and committed to the democratic process.
Is the Political System Targeting Peter Obi?
NDC House of Representatives aspirant Peter Akah, popularly known as Randy Peter, also backed this defiant stance. He argued that the legal drama plaguing the NDC is a deliberate, targeted move to stop Obi. Akah dropped some hard truths, pointing out a glaring pattern of systemic resistance whenever Obi steps into the arena.
Obi was in the Labour Party, problem came. He left Labour, and the party became peaceful. Obi entered the ADC, another problem. Obi left the ADC; the problem left. He joined the NDC, and the same problem resurfaced. Nobody or political party that controls everybody, including over 30 governors, should be this afraid.
Akah framed the 2027 election as a straight battle between a corrupt political class and over 200 million victims of failed leadership. He noted that if Obi does not become president, his personal life will still be fine, but the young people have everything to lose if Nigeria does not work. His final word to the movement? Go and get your PVC, because the leaders will be on the ballot.
Will Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso Be on the 2027 Ballot?
Yes. The Obidient Movement has confidently stated that both leaders will contest the 2027 presidential election under the NDC coalition, regardless of the current legal hurdles.
What Was the Court's Reason for Annulling the NDC Registration?
Justice Isah Dashen ruled that the Peace Movement Party was not joined in the original suit, even though they claimed ownership of the logo used to secure the mandatory registration order.
