In a display of pure African football excellence, our mighty Super Falcons demonstrated why they remain the undisputed queens of the continent, staging a masterful comeback to clinch their 10th Women's Africa Cup of Nations title against hosts Morocco.
From Adversity to Glory
The battle at Rabat's Stade Olympique wasn't just another football match - it was a testament to Nigerian resilience and determination. Despite falling two goals behind to a spirited Moroccan side, our warriors refused to bow.
The Atlas Lionesses struck first through their captain Ghizlane Chebbak in the 12th minute, followed by Sanaa Mssoudy's goal in the 24th. But anyone who knows Nigerian football knows that we're never defeated until the final whistle.
The Nigerian Spirit Prevails
The turning point came when our lethal striker Esther Okoronkwo converted a VAR-awarded penalty in the 64th minute. The goal ignited the Super Falcons' fighting spirit, leading to a masterclass in attacking football.
Seven minutes later, Okoronkwo and Folashade Ijamilusi combined brilliantly to level the score, silencing the packed Moroccan crowd. The final blow came through substitute Jennifer Echegini's clinical finish in the 88th minute - a goal that will be remembered in African football history.
Cementing a Legacy
This victory marks Nigeria's 10th WAFCON title in 13 tournaments - a dominance unmatched in African football. After temporarily ceding the crown to South Africa in 2022, our Super Falcons have rightfully reclaimed their throne, proving once again that Nigerian football excellence knows no bounds.
